Clinical Nanomedicine and Advanced Therapies Research Centre. Bioengineering, Cell Therapy and Surgery in Congenital Anomalies

CIBBIM-Nanomedicina. Bioenginyeria, teràpia cel·lular i cirurgia en malformacions congènites

The group’s research is centred around discovering basic physiopathological mechanisms of foetal and paediatric congenital anomalies, to find therapeutic strategies for problems deriving from these anomalies. They do so using a translational team comprising clinical and basic researchers.

Description

The group’s main research areas are the study of myelomeningocele, more commonly known as spina bifida, and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. It is also researching lip and palate fissures, amniotic band constriction, gastroschisis, cell therapy and tissue engineering.

The clinical profile of the team is made up of paediatric surgeons, neonatologists and obstetricians, who work alongside biochemists, biotechnologists and biologists, in charge of basic research. Together they develop, among other lines, different animal models for the intrauterine correction of foetal anomalies, and promote translational research for human clinical application.
