External recognition
and accreditation

The excellence and outstanding quality of Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus professionals and institutions are recognised with external accreditations over and above those necessary simply to carry out our activities. These national and international appraisals are proof of the good work done on the Campus. We have assembled them here, together with participation from our professionals in various organisations, editorial boards and other bodies that bring prestige to them and to the Campus.

Excellence

Certifications granted by scientific institutions or societies are a recognition and a reflection of the quality of healthcare, training and research activities.

Vall d’Hebron is a centre with extensive experience in rare diseases. We take part in 10 ERNs (European Reference Networks) as a centre highly specialised in certain rare diseases. In addition, we are the hospital with the highest number of National Healthcare Units of Reference (CSUR), with 26 recognised units.

In Catalonia, we form part of the Clinical Expertise Units Network (XUEC), together with the Parc Taulí Hospital in Sabadell and Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona. This is a leading network in diagnosis and care for people affected by a specific group of rare diseases.
Other departments and units have been recognised by different bodies for their quality and excellence.

The Oncology and Haematology in Childhood and Paediatric Stem Cell Transplant Department received JACIE quality accreditation, the Morbid Obesity Unit is accredited by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), and the Paediatric Surgery Department has the prestigious European Board of Paediatric Surgery certification (EBPS).

The Diabetic Foot Unit is another part of Vall d’Hebron’s commitment as a Centre Committed to Care Excellence and is a Best Practice Spotlights Organization.

Excellence also refers to the treatment of and facilities for professionals. Since April 2015, Vall d'Hebron Research Institute has been recognised by the European Commission for excellence in human resources with the HR Excellence in Research seal.

Recognition by public bodies

Vall d’Hebron is accredited as an acute care centre hospital in Catalonia. Accreditation of healthcare centres within the Department for Health is assessed and organized externally in relation to a set of established standards in order to assign their level of quality.

The Campus research centres: the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) exceeded the accreditation requirements. Both are recognised as Healthcare Research Institutes (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute. This accreditation places them among the elite in the field of hospital research, and recognises the high-quality translational research carried out.

A smoke-free Campus

The Campus is totally committed to health, which is why it is an accredited smoke-free centre and a Gold Forum Member 2017 of the Global Network for Tobacco-Free Healthcare Services.
