Radiation Oncology

Grup d'oncologia radioteràpica a Vall d'Hebron

The Radiation Oncology group is mainly made up of radiologist oncologists. In technological development, they work to develop new equipment to apply avant-garde clinical treatment techniques, such as rotary radiotherapy (with intensity-modulated arc therapy, IMAT), adaptive radiotherapy and image-guided radiotherapy. With a clear commitment to translational research, they work on applying biological knowledge of cancer and healthy tissue to customise the treatment according to the characteristics of each patient and each tumour.

Description

The group is continuing the modulated radiotherapy (MRT) programme in paediatric, gynaecological and gastrointestinal tumours. It is currently developing an extracranial stereotactic radiation therapy programme for pancreatic and lung cancer, and lung, liver and bone metastasis.

At the same time, the group is working on improving quality control programmes and developing new techniques. It is also studying new therapeutic combinations with radiation therapy and EGFR inhibitors in head and neck cancer and gastrointestinal tumours.
